Industry Solutions

Delivering customized solutions for vertical markets

EDI University will continue to develop industry expertise that will fit the exact needs of key vertical industries. Whether UCCnet in retail, HIPAA in healthcare, AIAG in automotive or NAESB in energy, EDI University understands the issues and standards that are driving e-business for these vertical markets:

Automotive

Conducting e-business with reliability and security

The automotive industry is heavily driven by EDI integration with key business processes. There is a need to sustain the discipline and benefits derived from these investments and complement it with more contemporary B2B technologies.

As the latency between order entry and shipment becomes more and more mission-critical, companies must now create and manage internal business processes to handle multiple daily shipments, integrated barcode labeling and disparate ordering methods.

B2B integration and Data Transformation Services

Data Transformation Services bridge the technology gap between you and your trading partners, so organizations can create a digital dialog regardless of data formats or standards. A superior EDI/XML data transformation tool will provide any-to-any translation capabilities, along with tight integration with your B2B connectivity solution, to standardize differing formats and streamline the process of exchanging business documents with your entire trading community.

The automotive industry has made significant strides streamlining business-to-business communications to simplify operations and drive down costs across the automotive supply chain. Major automotive manufacturers like Honda and DaimlerChrysler have developed their own Internet-based proprietary data formats for e-business documents, replacing or coexisting with traditional EDI standards for data transformation and Value-Added Networks (VANs) for connectivity. Open e-business standards like ebXML are gaining acceptance through the backing of industry leaders like General Motors.

Pre-built automotive industry kits, with translation maps and forms that support the proprietary standards of major automotive manufacturers (e.g., GM EDIFACT, Delphi Order-to-Delivery and Honda), provide automotive suppliers with a template for electronically sharing business documents with their largest trading partners, and accelerate and further simplify the data transformation process.

Here is a quick checklist when researching Internet EDI, B2B integration and data transformation solutions:

  • Concurrent support for EDI and XML
  • Certified eBusinessReady™ for EDI-INT (AS1, AS2, AS3) and ebXML
  • Flexibility to support FTP, ANX, EBMX, GM/Covisint HTTP/s, HTTP/s and Web Services
  • Ability to exchange EDI, E5-2000 or XML BOD documents
  • Secure transaction exchange (AS1, AS2, AS3, PGP, S/MIME, SSL, IPSEC, VPN)
  • Document exchange via a Value-Added Network (VAN) or direct with business partners

Energy & Utilities

Powering the secure exchange of information

In the deregulated, multi-player energy market, communication is critical. When trading partners share information electronically, delays are eliminated and business operations are improved.

Internet EDI is the ideal solution for the secure exchange of information between all types of energy and utilities trading partners, from billing agents and meter owners to regulatory bodies. Information such as electricity usage or meter readings can be transferred faster and at a much lower cost than with traditional VAN EDI. NAESB certification is a must to ensure compliance with state-regulated mandates.

Here is a quick checklist when researching an Internet EDI solution:

  • Tiered solution for connectivity to all energy market participants
  • Support for state regulatory requirements (NAESB, EDI-INT)
  • End-to-end transaction tracking for timely delivery
  • Secure document exchange (NAESB, AS1, AS2, AS3, PGP, S/MIME, SSL)
  • Fast ROI with immediate savings off Value-Added Network (VAN) fees
  • Single point of connection with multiple partners, regardless of data format
  • Concurrent support for EDI and XML
  • Out-of-the-box, "no footprint" web interface for file upload/download by your smallest trading partners
  • Ease of legacy system integration

Energy & Utilities industry standards

NAESB
NAESB EDM was developed with the purpose of reducing VAN costs while securely exchanging transactions over the Internet between gas and electric utilities trading partners. The NAESB EDM was the first HTTP-based Internet EDI standard and is estimated to be the most widely deployed EDI standard in the United States.

Financial Services

Securely automating transactions between business partners

Due to fierce competition and increased M&A activity, the financial services industry is being challenged to find new ways to serve the customer while watching the bottom line. One way to achieve significant savings is by securely automating the exchange of business transactions. Internet EDI (EDI-INT) can quickly connect a myriad of financial services partners for the secure exchange of transactions.

Whether you're a powerhouse in the financial arena or a small service partner, EDI-INT can help you exchange data securely and efficiently to remain competitive and increase profitability. No matter what content standard you or your partners use (EDI, XML, SWIFT MT, etc.).

Secure transaction exchange

Security is paramount in financial services. EDI-INT supports the most secure data transfer standards, including AS1, AS2, PGP, S/MIME and Secure Sockets Layer (SSL).

Digital certificates provide authentication, encryption and non-repudiation, ensuring transactions arrive unaltered and can only be viewed by the Sender and Receiver, and that senders and receivers are who they claim to be.

Here is a quick checklist when researching an Internet EDI solution:

  • Tiered solution for up to 100% partner connectivity
  • Secure transaction exchange (AS1, AS2, AS3, PGP, S/MIME, SSL)
  • Data transformation to and from all industry standard formats (ACORD, SWIFT MT, XML, ANSI X12, EDI, etc.)
  • Transaction tracking with actionable audit trails
  • Fast ROI with immediate savings off VAN fees
  • Cost savings as a result of reduced paper processes
  • Concurrent support for EDI and XML
  • Support for federal Gramm-Leach-Bliley Act and California SB 1386 (where applicable) compliance initiatives
  • Superior scalability with Java-based, J2EE application server
  • Out-of-the-box, "no footprint" web interface for file upload/download by your smallest business partners
TECHNOLOGY PURPOSE
AS1 Secure communication via email
AS2 Secure real-time communication with authentication and immediate receipt notification
Digital Certificate Authentication of sender identity
PGP Maintain message content privacy
SSL Maintain message transmission security
S/MIME Maintain message content privacy
PKI Authentication, verification and non-repudiation
MDN Proof of receipt

Healthcare

EDI-INT from the Heathcare Perspective

Healthcare industry standards

HIPAA
The Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) is a mandated government regulation that covers privacy, security and electronic transaction standards for healthcare information. The goal of HIPAA is to dramatically decrease administrative costs through the standardized, electronic transmission of healthcare transactions, while ensuring data security and patient privacy.

The HIPAA Conformance Certification Organization (HCCO) has sponsored AS2 and ebXML Interoperability Certification testing. HCCO recognizes AS2 and ebXML as technologies that provide HIPAA compliance for Electronic Messaging and Integration Privacy and Security.
